My grandpa passed away earlier this month and I didn't write about it yet because I just couldn't. We went up to San Jose for the memorial service and it was a great weekend. My mom's side of the family are not members of our church and it was interesting and wonderful to all be able to grieve together. We had a wonderful service. I sang Amazing Grace and it was a small miracle that I did not sob my way through it. I was actually able to sing the whole way through it. I think it was because I was able to be first.
My mom followed and it was one of the most wonderful talks I have ever heard anyone give. It was so perfect, perfect amount of time, perfect message and just perfect.
My grandpa lived a full life and spent his last few years taking care of my grandma. She is really sick and he never wanted anyone else to be her caregiver. He was so selfless and I learned so much from his example. I really could go on and on but his real legacy was his loyalty and love that he had for my grandma who he was married to and just had celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary last month. My mom said it best in her talk she said, "In the last few years of his life he was my mom's arms and legs and even her voice." They truly were "one flesh." What an amazing legacy to leave behind to your posterity.

I'm sorry for your loss Brooke. Sounds like a special Grandpa. Hang in there!
I wish I was able to be there - I'm sure you sang like an angel and I'm so happy that Amy was able to speak, what a special day. I know he will be missed and the love will go on...Your whole family was in my thoughts that day.
