Fashionista vs. Recessionista: MAKEUP

In an effort to practice, "provident living" (wasn't conference awesome?) and become a recessionista rather than a fashionista, I have been thinking of ways to cut my spending and I was looking in my makeup bag and thinking to myself, ok self how much money is actually IN this makeup bag? Umm A LOT! So here are some ways that I am going to save more and spend less. So I hit the world wide web and searched out some great makeup options that I can find at Target, CVS or even The Walmarts (gasp!)

Tinted Moisturizer

Fashionista Brooke:

Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer in Nude
Ok this stuff is like the HOLY GRAIL of tinted moisturizer but let me tell you, you pay a pretty penny for it. Like $42. Since I go through this relatively quickly I thought that there had to be a better less expensive option

Recessionista Brooke:

L'oreal Age Perfect Tinted MoisturizerThis was a $12.99 much nicer price tag. To be honest, still doesn't quite achieve the HOLY GRAILNESS that Laura Mercier does, but I actually liked it. I think this is my new tinted moisturizer.

Savings $29

Mascara

Fashionista Brooke

Dior DiorShow IconicThis stuff is great but $27. YIKES I know! I was not living very providently.

Recessionista Brooke

Covergirl Lash Blast and L'Oreal Voluminous
This one is an oldie but a goodie. Used this in High school but then I discovered DiorShow. After using it again, I was thinking, ummm why did you stop. Seriously AWESOME and only $7.99 at CVS. Definitely awesome mascara and just the same, if not BETTER than DiorShow.
This was a new try. I loved the look of it and hey I am a sucker for packaging! This is another thing that I loved! It is SOOOO much like DiorShow even the brush is the same. Gives awesome Volume, and length as well. This one was $7.99 again! Both are awesome!

Savings: $19

LIPGLOSS

Fashionista Brooke

Mac Lipgloss
This stuff is great, comes in a gazillion colors and has staying power and doesn't smell gross or like a fruit basket. But it is $14.

Recessionista Brooke:

L'Oreal colorjuice This stuff was good but not great. Not as many colors, more sheer. It smells good and tastes good too. It was $8 a little but much for drugstore lipstick but still less. I liked it though, more natural than the MAC.

Savings: $6

Overall from switching three things in my beauty routine I can save Almost $55 dollars! That is not bad! Next time I will have to try some new blush, eyeshadow and eyeliner. Stay tuned! Hope you can all be savy recessionistas!
